What is Patching?
Patching is the process of fixing system vulnerabilities which are discovered after the first release of the Software to the market. Patches apply to Operating Systems, Servers, Desktops, Email client, Office suites and many other parts of the network infrastructure.
The number of patches which are required on a consistent basis can be overwhelming. This is why it is necessary to schedule patching to take place as frequent as possible.
Most patches – especially Operating System Patches – require a reboot once downloaded and installed, this is to ensure that the patch installation was successful and will be integrated into the current operating system without any issues.
InhouseCIO Patch Deployment System
Keeping client systems up to date with the latest patches is a critical function and expected of IT service provider’s services. But patch management involves more than simply installing updates. Oftentimes, patches fix the problem they’re designed to address, but unintentionally break something else in the process.
InhouseCIO has developed best practices to manage the risks associated with the approval and deployment of patches, our engineers assess and test every patch released from the product manufacturer before deploying it to the client computers and servers.
Post-Patching System Reboot
Generally, after installing security patches, your system will need to be rebooted to finish the installation and activation of the valuable changes applied by these patches.
This step is crucial to ensure that the installation was successful, all of the patches bits have been loaded as expected and to maintain a healthy, stable and secure working space for your applications.
We at InhouseCIO Patching and Security team know that an unexpected reboot will disturb your employees valuable time and, in most cases, will cause data loss, and we wanted to give the best IT experience to all of your users at any given time.
